Violin Coach

 

Zheng Yang received his master degree with distinction from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), where he studied under Michael Ma and Ivan Chan. Mr. Zheng was the first violin of the Gloucester String Quartet and the concertmaster of the Academy Symphony Orchestra. He was also a two-time winner of the concerto competition at the Academy. Mr. Zheng was also selected to perform at a number of master classes organized by the Academy and the Hong Kong Art Festival, including Silvia Rosenberg, Donald Weilerstein, Earl Carlyss, Günter Pichler, Gerhard Schulz, James Dunham, Ning Feng, Cho-Liang Lin, Leonidas Kavakos and Renaud Capuçon. Zheng was a participant of the Kent/Blossom Music Festival in 2011 and 2012, where he performed with the Cleveland Orchestra.

Apart from giving solo performances, Zheng is also a devoted chamber musician. His Gloucester String Quartet received first prize in the Schonefeld International String Competition in 2013. In 2015, the quartet represented the HKAPA to perform in a ten-day tour to the Royal Academy of Music and the Wells Cathedral School in the UK. In 2016, they collaborated the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble to participate in Tongyeong International Music Festival. The quartet has also participated in the McGill International String Quartet Academy, one of the top chamber music festivals in the world. In 2017, the Gloucester String Quartet was invited to participate in the HKSAR 20th anniversary concert series in London, organized by the Hong Kong government. They also took part in the prestigious Aspen music festival in Colorado on full scholarship. In 2018, Mr. Zheng participated in Mahler symphony No.1 Chamber Version recording project. In 2019 and 2020, Mr. Zheng collaborated with Hong Kong String Orchestra in Southeast Asia tour and South Korea tour.

Mr. Zheng is currently teaching violin at the Junior Department of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He is the first violin of City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, freelance player of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and the founding member of Bauhinia Trio.
